Three eggs were laid, all of which hatched. In the first five days, two of the chicks disappeared. The survivor seemed to be doing well, but on the morning of August 8th, the nest was found to be empty. A scrub jay was seen leaving the vicinity. The mother towhee could be heard crying in distress. All her hard work and dedication had come to nothing.
